Recycled Glass Candles

Saving the environment while creating a vibe

Striving to change the narrative.

Each year The United States of America generates over 12 thousand us tons of glass while only recycling less than 25 percent. That means from year to year between 7 and 8 thousand us tons are shipped off to landfills.

How it started….

Lighthouse Recycling started as a family craft for holiday get togethers. We could collect single use dispensary jars throughout the year and make small jar candles for people to take home. Once word got out, neighbors, friends, and family began to reach out and ask if they could give us their jars. Before we knew it, we had a box of empty jars.

After a few months of making small candle for fun and giving them as gifts, we cleaned out our refrigerator. In just one cleaning we had 6 interesting jars of different shapes and sizes. This showed us that no matter how many small jars from the cannabis industry we turned around, we would never make a dent in the glass waste produced in our own community. We started collecting all jars.

One night, while hanging out at a local bar, the patrons were lamenting the lack of glass recycling in our community. They were, of course, speaking in regard to beer and wine bottles. So we began learning to repurpose these bottles. After researching and struggling with several methods cutting the neck off beer bottles, we made the investment in a professional bottle cutter.

1/8th ounce dispensary jars often fit most candle holders made for tea lights, but usually burn 10-12 times as long. While clearly having a better vibe.
